KENDRICK - Tear down of Kendrick's century-old train depot could begin in the next few weeks.

That announcement came Tuesday, just a day after Timberworks, Inc, a lumber salvaging company that works out of Deary and Bovill, purchased the unused depot for $50.

Kendrick city officials said Timberworks was the only company to bid on the aging structure.

Kendrick's city council voted to open bids in late January, after they agreed the city couldn't afford a $300,000 - $400,000 renovation, despite opposition from a local preservation group.

Timberworks will salvage the wood from the depot. Kendrick Mayor Dale Lisher said there are a number of ideas for the future of the site, including an RV park.
