Going Red reminder of heart disease's toll on women

LEWISTON - Across the country people were going red Friday?
It's the campaign to educate the public on the number one killer of American women - heart disease. The America Heart Association came up with the annual event, asking participants to "wear red." At St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Friday morning Valley health care professionals were promoting good heart health. "We have everything from diabetes education, nutrition, nicotine intervention, our sleep center," said Community Services Manager Christina Metcalf. "We've got our Wii Fit station this year to promote exercise." And the Nintendo Wii, not surprisingly, proved pretty popular regardless of age. Metcalf said for a few simple heart-healthy activities, it might be worth the investment. "It's a great tool, and it's not just running, it's not just high stress exercise, but it’s bowling, yoga, stretching, jogging if you'd like," said Metcalf. "It also has tennis, baseball, golf. Something you can do right in your own home." Metcalf said information about heart disease and prevention is available at St. Joe’s year-round. |
