It happened on Highway 95 at about 7:00 a.m. ISP said 39-year-old Erin Bullock of Winchester was headed north in her Dodge Durango just a few miles south of Lapwai. Lewiston resident 45-year-old Shawn Stone was southbound when ice apparently took control of the oncoming SUV.
"From witness accounts and driver accounts, the red Dodge began fish-tailing, lost control, rotated into the southbound lane and struck the van on the front," said Idaho State Police Corporal John Ferris.
Stone, who was driving the van, was wearing her seat belt and was not injured. Bullock was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and released late Thursday morning. Ferris said they haven't determined if she was buckled up.
The investigation is continuing, and citations may be pending.
Ferris said U.S. 95 has been deceivingly slick in the mornings.
"What you see is what you get," said Ferris. "It's extremely cold. ITD is out laying mag-chloride, but especially on these reaches of 95, it does become extremely cold and icy. So, people would be well advised to slow down and drive to the conditions."
