ASOTIN - A search and rescue mission for a missing Spokane County man ended Monday night.
The Asotin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 54-year-old Mark Bundrock of Deer Park had been located late Monday afternoon by Washington Fish and Wildlife personnel about 30 miles up the Asotin Creek drainage. He was transported to a residence 14 miles up Asotin Creek Road. (Earlier reports indicated that he had driven himself to that location.) According to Capt. Dan Hally of the Asotin County Sheriff’s Office, Bundrock was suffering from injuries suffered in an ATV accident on Friday. A Lewiston ambulance transported him to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and he was then taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane where he was listed in satisfactory condition Tuesday morning. Bundrock had gone into the Rattlesnake Grade Area near the Oregon border to spend the weekend hunting, fishing and riding his ATV. His wife said he never returned home on Sunday. "He was due home last night," said Sheriff Ken Bancroft Monday morning. "He didn't show up. He's been employed by this one company for 20 years and he isn't at work this morning. So about 8:30, 9:00 a.m. we sent a deputy up to check this out. We got the call at about 8:30 a.m. We sent a deputy up to the Bogan’s area there at the bottom of Rattlesnake Grade on highway 129." Deputies said they found Bundrock’s trailer Monday morning, but his pickup and 4-wheeler were gone. Asotin County called in the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Air Search Posse and deployed a plane at about 2 p.m. At about 4:15 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received the call from the residence up Asotin Creek Road that Bundrock was there. Hally said Bundrock had made his way back to his pickup after his ATV crash and spent three nights there before the searchers found him. The Sheriff’s Office contacted Bundrock’s wife when her husband was found. Hally praised the teams that searched for Bundrock, including the Sheriff’s Office and both the Asotin Co. Sheriff’s Posse and the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Posse, which sent up its plane to search, as well as Fish and Wildlife and local residents. “Those folks were absolutely fantastic,” Hally said, referring to the local residents who helped in the search. |
