Culdesac man killed in crane accident at Port of Wilma
Officials say straps broke on this crane at the Port of Wilma Saturday morning, causing another section of crane that was being lifted to fall, striking a Culdesac man and killing him.
CLARKSTON - A 46-year-old Culdesac man was killed in an apparent industrial accident at the Port of Wilma Tuesday morning.
According to the Whitman County Sheriff's Office, Steven H. Woods was apparently assisting in the unloading of a 46,000 lb section of crane from a trailer at around 10:15 a.m. The crane section was being lifted off the trailer by another crane when the loading straps broke, causing the section being lifted to fall. Woods was struck by the unsecured section of the crane when it shifted and is believed to have died instantly. Emergency personnel from the Clarkston Fire Department responded and determined that Woods was deceased upon their arrival. The incident is being investigated by the Washington Department of Labor and Industries, the Whitman Co. Coroner and the Whitman Co. Sheriff's Office. |
