Wild crash on 95

CULDESAC – Idaho State Police said a Culdesac man fell asleep at the wheel of his pickup Tuesday afternoon, causing a crash and a power outage.

ISP said Leo R. Hasenoehrl, 86, was southbound on U.S. 95 about 2:20 p.m. when he fell asleep and crossed through the northbound lane and hit a power pole, shearing off the pole. The pickup ended up on its side in the ditch.

The driver of a semi truck that was northbound, saw the crash but didn't see the power line across the roadway. The semi stretched the power line and broke it. The line then hit a Ford Explorer that was pulled over at the scene.

The subject in the Ford Explorer was not injured.

The power pole damage caused power to be out in the area for a couple of hours.

Hasenoehrl was injured but not transported to a hospital. He was cited for inattentive driving.
