Kids at Fingerprints get into the spirit Friday.

LEWISTON - They are making a good place for kids even better.

Fingerprints day care center on 8th Street in Lewiston, was recently evaluated by the Quality Child Care Rating System, or QRS. Fingerprints Director Brooke Pedersen said IdahoSTARS gave the center a grant to help them improve some of their services.

"We're able to buy furniture and buy supplies for the classroom," said Pedersen. "Also train our already awesome staff to learn more about how they can impact these kids' lives every day while they're here at Fingerprints."

On Friday, Fingerprints, which is owned and operated by New Bridges Community Church, open their doors for a morning and afternoon session to showcase what they've done.

"All of the kids have invited special guests to come to the program," said Pedersen. "The parents and the special guests are able to see the changes we've made and all the neat things the children are doing in their classes at Fingerprints."

Pedersen said the goal is to eventually develop a rating system for child care centers, making decisions easier for Idaho parents.

"If you go to a website for hotels you can find out it's a five-star hotel, you know it has all the amenities," said Pedersen. "That's what we want for child care."

Along with the song and dance and puppet show, Fingerprints gave away free child care to a lucky parent.
