LEWISTON - Reports of a stabbing came in at about 10:30 p.m from a home at 1417 7th Avenue in Lewiston. Police said it started as a domestic argument between 44-year-old Dorah Birch and 56-year-old John Sjogren. The argument escalated to the point where Birch stuck a three-inch knife on Sjogren's chest.

Police said Birch hadn't been taking prescribed medication, and was having a nervous breakdown when the crime took place. Sjogren was taken to St. Joes, but police said the injury was non-life threatening.

Birch was arrested and charged with aggravated battery. The investigation showed alcohol was not a factor in the stabbing.
