Lewiston High School students prepare to get on the bus Wednesday.

LEWISTON - Back to school week continues.

Wednesday the Bengals came roaring through the doors at Lewiston High School.

The focus was on sophomores, new to the purple and gold and principal Bob Donaldson, who said they spent all of day one getting them oriented.

"Get to know traditions in the school, who's who, clubs," said Donaldson. 'How to be involved, just the basics so they can hit the ground running."

A new tradition that everyone will have to get used to is a brand new schedule. For as long as they can remember, Bengals have run a six-class day. Now it's eight classes, followed by four longer classes every other day for the rest of the year. Sound confusing? Donaldson said everyone, including faculty, has to adjust.

"The way they teach and the way they organize their contents is totally new for them," said Donaldson. "So everybody's excited, a little apprehensive, but fired up."

Despite sitting through longer classes, Donaldson said students will ultimately benefit from the change.

"We have new classes that run the range from welding and small engines, to history of rock and roll, and some new AP classes," said Donaldson. “I think everybody is pretty pumped up about it."
