LEWISTON - Many area schools got underway Monday and one of them is a new school in the Valley.
The Valley Montessori School is located in the First United Methodist Church in Lewiston, but the director said it's not a religious-based school, but one based on the knowledge learned from Maria Montessori, the Italian woman who founded it. This week the school is holding an open house. " Were just signing up kids right now," said School Director Georgann Cundiff. "This is our first year in the Valley so we will take 12 in the morning and 12 in the afternoon and then will go from there." Cundiff said the school, for three to six-year-olds, is unique in how it approaches children as individuals. "Each child has their own curriculum and the classroom belongs to him," she said. "He takes care of it, he loves it, they learn to love it, they are very secure. Nobody pushes them around or makes them do anything that they are not ready for." Cundiff said this school will prepare children for public or private school. "I just want to meet the children in the Valley and will love them," said Cundiff. "I will teach them everything they need to know and see this school grow." The open house runs through Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information you can call (208) 746 - 0260. The price runs from $130 to $150 a month. |
