They are men, men in heels

This young lad does his part to see what it's like to walk in heels.

MOSCOW – You’ve heard the old saying - walk a mile in my shoes.

Well, one University of Idaho group took that an extra step further.

For many of the guys "ignorance is bliss" may have worked better, but a number of them braved a few steps in high heels on the UI campus Tuesday.

"The idea is to not only walk in their shoes, but also to get some information about women's incidents of violence," said Interim Director of the Women's Center, Heather Shea-Gasser.

The event was held near the Living and Learning Center as part of Women's Equality Day, also marking the 88th anniversary of a woman's right to vote. What was drawing the men? Curiosity.

"I've always heard my girlfriend complain about heels," said sophomore Adam Anderson. "When you walk into a shoe store, everybody wants to try, but you can never find heeled shoes that actually fit."

Well, regardless if that is accurate, thanks to Payless, the Women’s Center had plenty that did fit, and testosterone met a high-heeled obstacle course

"Once they figure out that, they got to go up the stairs and cross their legs," said Gasser. "I think it seems to be working pretty well."

Working pretty well in that a number of men now feel the pain of what some say is unnatural elevation of the foot.

"My feet were wobbly every step, but it wasn't so bad," said Anderson. "The only thing was going up the stairs, I kept wanting to just step with my toes, but my heel just slipped behind. I imagine if I was doing it quick, I would have just gone down."

"Hopefully people are attracted to it because it's a fun, and funny thing," said Gasser. "But there's also a serious message with it as well."
