LEWISTON – When thinking about art, one seldom thinks of the word skateboard.

But an exhibit at the LCSC Center for Arts and History is hosting an exhibit that brings those two together.

Friday was the opening reception for the Carve art show," said President of Valley State Board Association Dan Prasil. "We are just trying to get as many people as we can to come down and look at all the boards we have exhibited."

There are over 20 boards on display painted by local and regional artists. And if the event inspires you to get out and try the half pipe, all the boards are part of a silent auction. All the money will go toward building a new skate park.

"The skate park we have now is about 20 years old and while it was a good park when it was built, it's kind of at the point where it needs to be replaced," said Prasil.

Organizers said skateboarding is a healthy activity that's important to many kids.

"Skateboarding has provided a creative and positive outlet for me and a lot of young kids in this Valley and we really just need to support them and give them something to do," said Prasil.

The exhibit and silent auction runs through August 30.
