MOSCOW - The 2nd District Magistrates Commission recently interviewed five finalists to replace retiring Latah County Judge William Hamlett. They included Deputy Nez Perce County Prosecutor Sandra Dickerson and Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson, but the commission ended up appointing Moscow Attorney John Judge.

Judge said he's ecstatic.

"It's the biggest honor of my life,” Judge said. “I'm humbled by the appointment. It was an outstanding list of candidates."

Judge is currently with the law firm of Landeck, Westberg, Judge & Graham. Judge, who received his law degree from the University of Idaho, said his experience and love for the region will help him do a great job.

"I look forward to serving the community, the county, and the state of Idaho with integrity and distinction,” Judge said. “I will work very hard for the people of this community and I've never been so excited to start a job in my entire life."

Judge has been practicing law for over two decades, but says he's excited to tackle something new.

"I know I have a lot to learn and I look forward to accepting suggestions from all quarters. I'm ready to learn."

Judge said he has last name has created some unique interest in the appointment.

"I don't know, it might be more of a distraction than anything else. It's an interesting point."

Judge will begin his term on the bench October 1.
