21st Street crash claims life of Lewiston man

LEWISTON - A Lewiston man died Wednesday after the motorcycle he was driving in the 700 block of 21st Street struck a pickup.
It happened around 5 p.m. According to a news release from Lewiston Police, emergency personnel responded to a report of the collision and emergency first aid was rendered to the motorcycle rider. He had sustained head injuries. He was immediately transported by Lewiston ambulance to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. The driver of the motorcycle, Adam N. Bennett, 26, of Lewiston, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officials say he died as a result of the head injuries and that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. Bennett was operating a 2002 Suzuki GSXR10 motorcycle that was totaled in the collision. The driver of the 1997 Ford pickup was identified as Mark H. Johnson, 54, of Lewiston. Johnson did not sustain any injuries. The pickup sustained extensive damage; estimated at $5,000. Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle was traveling northbound on 21st in the 700 Block at a high rate of speed. The pickup was turning from 21st Street eastbound onto 7th Avenue. The crash occurred in the intersection of 21st Street and 7th Avenue. The collision is under investigation by the Lewiston Police Department Major Collision Investigation Team.
