LEWISTON - They get your mail every day, and Saturday, they'll pick up your food.

It's the cleverly named National Association of Letter Carriers "Stamp-Out Hunger" food drive.

"It's the largest one-day food drive in the nation," said Melinda Katchersid, food drive coordinator.

"We're just asking the community to maybe give a little bit more, fill the bags a little bit more, so we can help stamp out hunger," said Community Action Partnership Food Bank Manager Connie Granbois.

Officials ask that you put your non-perishables out by your mailbox bright and early.

Katchersid says be generous in your donations, but also in the weight of your load... because they'll still be delivering your mail.

"We do our nine to five also with picking up food, so it's kind of hard."

Lewiston's Community Action Partnership Food Bank, as well as the Asotin County Food Bank, will be receving food from both sides of the river.

This is largest food drive of the year, with the hope that around 25,000 pounds of food will be collected.

"All food banks need the basic things, the breakfast items, the canned soups, chili, beef stew," said Granbois "We need boxed food items like hamburger helper and tuna helper, tuna fish, macaroni and cheese and personal care items."
