LEWISTON - With a contested race for Idaho’s high court, one campaign made a stop Friday in Lewiston.

Idaho Supreme Court Justice Joel Horton took a break from real campaigning to visit local grade schools Friday morning.

"I've drawn a challenger in this year's race, Judge Bradbury of Grangeville, so, I'm up here in Lewiston today in search of votes quite frankly," said Horton.

Horton spoke to a class at his alma mater, Webster Elementary, before joining 5th and 6th graders at St. Stanislaus Tri-Parish School. They asked questions of the justice for nearly a half-hour.

"I love answering the questions from the kids because, for one thing, they don't ask the questions that I'm not permitted to answer,” Horton said. “They want to know things about being a judge, or what it's like to be a justice on the Supreme Court."

Horton explained the role of the Supreme Court to the students as if it were like the instant replay team in football, making sure the right calls are made on the field.

As for the May 27 primary, Horton said he thinks the decision is simple for this non-partisan seat.

"There's only one issue for the voters to decide in this election...and I think that the people that are in the best position to judge us as judges answered that question."

Horton was referring to a survey, where Horton says he got the support of attorneys statewide.

Horton traveled to Cottonwood and Grangeville Friday afternoon, and was scheduled to hold a reception in Lewiston Friday night.
