ASOTIN - The Asotin County Sheriff's Office is demonstrating how they are willing to pitch in when it comes to helping out the community.

Severe weather has pounded the town of Anatone, causing many people to be snowed in, including Pam and Wes Guffy and their five dogs.

"They have been snowed in and they live off the main road and they have snowmobiles and they've been stuck, weathered in," said Deputy Jeff Polillo. "They have several dogs, five Austrailian shepards and they have been running low on dog food."

Thanks to a community outreach program the Sheriff's Office runs, they were able to buy supplies for the couple. Then, they sent in the Posse.

"The Posse is just an organization for volunteers," said Polillo. "They go up there and they do search and rescues, they help out during the fair time and a lot of different events that help us out. We're short staffed and we cant broaden our fingers as much as we would like to."

The Posse made it to the main road in Anatone before they had to switch to sleds to make it the rest of the way to the house.

"We bought a hundred pounds of dog food, so they can get up there," he said. "And about a dozen Posse members went on sleds up there to deliver the food and take care of the dogs."

Polillo said they have had a couple of calls for help in the snow, but have been impressed with the way people are helping each other out in Anatone.

"The thing up there in Anatone, the neighbors are really friendly and they help each other out and people do have tractors and stuff," he said. "So I have heard a lot of positive things about the residents up there helping each other out. But it was just so bad, that they needed help and so we responded and got the help from the Posse as well."

The Sheriff's Office wants to make sure the public knows you can call them if you need them.

"We are just here, you know, to help," said Polillo. "That's the main thing and if your need of help and assistance, in an emergency, don't be afraid to call us and we can devise a plan to help somebody out."
