WALLA WALLA, Wash. (AP) - A second unit at the Washington State Penitentiary has been placed on lockdown following a fight in a common area.

The Echo Unit is the second unit at the Walla Walla facility to go on lockdown in the past week. The unit is expected to return to normal operations on Wednesday.

Each unit houses 187 inmates.

The fight involving four inmates occurred Tuesday morning.

A death row inmate at the penitentiary is scheduled to be executed Friday morning, though several appeals are pending. It would be the first execution in Washington state since 2001.
