Roger Dale Kilman, 55, was arrested on June 28th for failing to register as a sex offender. Idaho county prosecutor Kirk Macgregor said Kilman was originally convicted of possession of child pornography in Walla Walla in 2005 and served 71 days in the county jail.
Macgregor said Kilman moved to the Alacca Bible Camp in Harpster, ID in 2007, which is about 12 miles northeast of Grangeville. Macgregor said Kilman failed to register as a convicted sex offender for all four years he's lived there.
Alacca Bible Camp Director Mark Kennedy told Action News Kilman had been working at the camp for about a year when Kennedy took over as camp director in 2008. Kennedy said he implemented background checks on future employees and volunteers, but did not run a check on Kilman because he was told it was already taken care of. He said he should have done one anyway, but Kilman just "slipped through the cracks."
Kennedy said they don't believe Kilman was ever alone with children during the camp, as his duties were mostly handywork and kitchen staff.
Kilman was charged with 4 felony counts of failure to register. He pleaded guilty to two of those counts and the other two were dismissed.
He's currently being held in the Nez Perce County Jail. Sentencing is scheduled for October 28th.
