Potlatch teen dies in fiery crash on U.S. 12

OROFINO - A Potlatch teenager died in a fiery crash Tuesday morning on U.S. 12 east of Lenore.

Idaho State Police said 19-year-old Karl A. Hoidal was driving a 1986 Chevy pickup eastbound at mile post 34 at around 6:23 a.m., when his pickup crossed the centerline and collided with a 1991 Ford Ranger driven by 28-year-old Jonathan A. Gering of Orofino.

ISP said Hoidal's pickup burst into flames upon impact. Hoidal was pronounced dead at the scene. Gering was transported to Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino with unknown injuries.

Police said Gering was wearing a seat belt. ISP said the investigation is pending.
