A good look at what Toastmasters is all about is on tap as the Twin Rivers Toastmasters Club at Lewis-Clark State College invites the community to a free Open House events on Oct. 29.

“Toastmasters provides a supportive and positive environment where members have the opportunity to develop their communication and leadership skills,” says Christine Meyer, Division Governor presiding over clubs in the Lewiston area.

Guests will have the opportunity to experience a typical Toastmasters meeting. The meeting’s Toastmaster of the day will explain roles played by several members to facilitate the meeting. Attendees will hear short speeches by members at various experience levels. In another portion of the meeting, evaluators will offer constructive evaluations of the speeches given earlier, and a General Evaluator will comment on the meeting as a whole.

Guests can also experience “Table Topics,” in which a “Topics Master” presents topics to inspire 1-2-minute impromptu responses from members. Open House attendees can choose to participate in this off-the-cuff speaking opportunity.

The Twin Rivers Toastmasters Open House takes place at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, Student Union Building, room 143, Lewis-Clark State College, Lewiston. Regular meetings are held weekly (Tuesdays) at the same time and location; guests are welcome. More information: Celeste McCormick,
