School officials say with the recent $472,000 given to the district by the State of Idaho, this year's budget needed to be adjusted to reflect that revenue. Moscow Schools Superintendent, Dale Kleinert, says about 45 percent of that money will go into a one-time staff allocation for school personnel and the remainder will be pumped back into the school. According to the district, the allocations will help keep the money close to students for their benefit.
Officials noted that even with this recent money given to the Moscow School District, the budget for this year was about $1.4 million dollars less than last year and that the numbers are still up in the air for 2012-2013.
"Governor Otter's budget has included a three percent increase [to public schools] however, there is a 2.38% cut coming as well so we know that it's all going to pretty much level out," said Moscow Schools Superintendent Dale Kleinert.
Kleinert says the district has been fiscally conservative for the past three years, due to significant funding reductions from the state.
