Authorities investigate alleged incident at Craigmont school

CRAIGMONT, ID - School officials and local law enforcement are investigating an incident at the Highland School in Craigmont, Idaho following parental claims that a man physically attacked students in a classroom on Monday.
KLEW News was contacted about the alleged incident. A person with knowledge of the situation told us that a man went into the school, grabbed a male student and slapped him. A parent of a student at the Highland School also told us that it went much further than just a slap. The school district and Lewis County Sheriff's office have not confirmed the information we were given regarding the details of the incident, however a press release from Lewis County indicates that an investigation has taken place regarding the incident and an individual is in custody on an unrelated matter.
We also received a statement from Highland Joint School District Superintendent Cindy Orr, who confirmed that the man in question checked in with the office when he came onto the school campus.
Orr said via her statement, "The investigation is ongoing and we are working hand in hand with Lewis County Sheriff's Department and Lewis County Prosecutor's Department. We are relieved he is in custody. When charges are filed, there will be a press release from the Lewis County Sheriff's Department. We are back to being in a safe environment. We take safety seriously and care about our students and staff members."

Well there seems to be something here....EVEN the press across the pond have taken up the issue!!
Â
I would say an independent panel needs to step in and investigate the actions.

Â
Well, obviously there was an "incident" that occurred at the school.Â
Â
Now to explain what I said in my first post - these posts are the exact reason that the school district should provide a press release. No information leads to all kinds of rumors. conjectures, and the continuation of improper information. How can people make informed decisions without correct information.
Â
While I do not dispute any post here, how can one reasonably come to a conclusion of the events that actually took place.
Â
Someone must provide facts to quell this.
@ANGEL FOX Are you crazy? You think it's okay that this man touched these children? He must be a complete idiot to do this right after everything just happened in Connecticut. And you must be a complete idiot for thinking this situation is okay.. you're probably just the man's wife/girl friend standing up for him. The main concern should be these children's safety. Unless you were personally there to get these details, which you weren't, you probably shouldn't say what all the STUDENTS/children saw is incorrect information... Just makes you look like a heartless idiot.
@Tx81x  @ANGEL FOX he did not touch any kids... and that the problem..  from what the family's have been told most all of the new's have to do retractions if you look at the the Lewis county sheriffs statement on there site, everything is still under investigation.. and everyone wants to blame this man for stopping a fight at the school because no other adult from that school stepped up.. and these kids run a muck..
i have to post because i am from this town and know more then most about what happened and think its bs.. this child was at school earlier bragging about his bruises he got from his bike.. is a bully to the other students and has never been disciplined for that.. no this is a school that if you have the money can buy your way out of just about anything you want.. i love how people jump when they don't even know half of what was going on... and the person that is in jail on non related charges... non related....
Wow, you better know the facts before you speak! I DO know the facts and do know what is going on. Was your child in there to witness it? No! Then you do not have a clue what my child went through. This was very traumatizing for my child to see. There also was not just one child involved. There were five children physically assaulted and many, many more verbally. The F bomb should not be allowed in a 5th grade class at all!!! No adult has the right to physically touch a child in a classroom!!! Where do you think any of this is okay??? And yes, according to LCSO he is in jail on unrelated charges as he has more serious crimes in other states that have to be dealt with first. Maybe next time before you voice your opinion you might want to get the whole story. These kids were completely traumatized and that is why there were only 8 out of 24 students to show up for class yesterday. This is completely uncalled for in our schools. They are to be safe there. This also has nothing to do with how much money you have. I see by your post that protecting our children means nothing to you. Please people pay attention to our children's safety!
@Concerned! yes i do know the facts... did you know the sub that was there called the principle at least once before this happened.. did you know the child told the adult that he would like to hurt some of the pretty girls in the class.. did you know that it happens all the time at that school.. its not my fault that some ones parents have not thought respect to there kids.. at so those kids think its OK... and the incident with more then one kid was the day before and did you know that adult walked into boys fighting.. so your telling me you would allow those boys to just go on fighting... and tell me why did the principle not go to the room when called my the sub? can you tell me that? and yes he is in jail on a charge from what 3 years ago.. is there any thing he has done between that? so what no one can change in your eyes?Â
@Concerned! and you are not looking at it from anyone but yours... if your kid is in this class you most be one of the many moms that have had to sit in that class so that your child can learn safely..Â
and obviously your child was not the one that was in the headlock until he was breathless, or the one with the bruise on his leg or hand print on his face, or the girl that was put in the arm bar hold. Really, you are not looking at this from a parent's perspective of a child that was sitting there watching it all or a parent of a child that was assaulted. I am done talking to you!!!! You are completely ridiculous!!!!  and a waste of my time and typing.Â

@ANGEL FOX Maam, I don't know why you keep referring to one child. There was one child kicked with a bruise on his leg, another child slapped across the face with a handprinted welt on his face, another put in a head lock until his face turned completely red due to lack of oxygen and three children, including a girl put in an arm bar hold all the while he was calling random girls and boys in the class f---ing retards, f---ing dumb and f---ing stupid along with other cruel things. When did this behavior start being allowed in classrooms??? Where did that parent get the okay to touch these kids??? I am well aware of the behavior in that classroom as my child is a member of it, but that does not give this man the right to go in there and start assaulting children. And I would like to tell you that this kind of conduct from a parent does not happen all the time at that school as my child has been in that class since kindergarten unlike that child's father who did this. This whole incident happened on Monday maam, as nothing happened the day before as there is no school on Sunday. I am not sticking up for the school either maam. I don't care if this man has or hasn't done anything in the last three years or not regarding law, this kind of behavior by an adult is completely uncalled for and should not be tolerated!Â
IÂ WANT TO KNOW THIS MAN'S NAME!
With a child of my own in this 5th grade class there were many things that I am concerned about with this incident. First of all....how long this incident went on (about 1/2 hour total) before this parent was finally taken out of this class; second, that the parents were not notified of this incident at all from the school itself only to find out from their own children as they came home from school; third, that the school did not contact authorities about these assaults on these children (a concerned parent is who got the police involved) and the list goes on. What ever happened to ZERO TOLERANCE in these schools. If this was a child with this type of behavior, that child's parent would have been called immediately. I am very concerned about our children's safety here. Come on people, please stand up for our children and protect them!
I am a parent of a child in this class and am very concerned about the way this whole situation was handled. It took the principal/superintendent a very long time (around 15 minutes) to come to the classroom after this child ran to her, and explained what had happened. I also believe parents should have been notified before our children came home and told us!!! Do you think this is protecting our children. I Think Not!!!
Yes, this incident went way further than a slap. There is so much more to this incident. This man (parent of a child in the classroom) put three kids in arm bar holds, one in a headlock and dragged him around the class until his face turned red. Another child jumped on the man's back to try to make him let go of the kid in the headlock and that is when that child got slapped across the face.   The children were called f---ing retards, f---ing stupid and dump, etc. This man physically assaulted five children and used verbal obscenities towards many others and this went on for 1/2 an hour before a courageous fifth grader walked out of the classroom to get the principal. I have a child in this fifth grade class and to say the least these poor children were traumatized over this incident. All the while the substitute teacher just sat there and let it happen. Come on people, please protect our children!Â
Interesting how this incident is hushed up. No statement from anyone?
Without information how can people make informed decisions?
An article as this makes more questions than provides answers.
The School district should provide a press release. Given the incidents that have happened recently a press release with some details should be release to inform the parents, teachers, students and community members.Â
